About Me

Chris Tsielepi Secretary of SMILE since last year's AGM and resident in Stoney Middleton for 4 years now. I love coming home, I love bumping into neighbours and friends when out and about in the village or on walks. I spent my early years in a village and then moved to inner London at 5 years old. It was only when I came to live in Stoney Middleton that I realised that what I'd been looking for in those intervening years was that village life again and I don't think I could have done better than Stoney Middleton.

Smiling is infectious

July 28, 2014
We have had a poem sent in to us from the wonderful Brenda Wragg who helped us enormously at Village Day selling her own wonderful preserves and chutneys but also donating 3 hampers to the raffle.

SMILE

Smiling is infectious
You can catch it like the flu
When someone smiled at me today
I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner
And someone saw my grin,
When he smiled I realised
I'd passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile
And realised its worth
A single smile like mine
Could travel round the earth.
So if you feel a smile begin
Don't leave it undetected
Let's start an epidemic quick
And get the world infected.
Go on, pass it on!

SMILE 1940s Themed Tea Dance

June 22, 2012
We had a great evening of fantastic music and song on April 23rd at Calver Village Hall at our 1940s Themed Tea Dance. Homemade cakes and sandwiches kindly donated by Cllr. Kath Potter, Annie Mitchell & Alison Crump, who couldn't come but still gave generously.
The hall was decorated with bunting and Union flags and tables were groaning under the weight of all sorts of sandwiches which the committee managed to make with their rations and with help from local butcher LW Hancock & Son.
Music was provided by the Nick Chandley Band, well-known musicians who regularly perform at Sheffield City Hall. Our friend and regular chanteuse Lucy Hope sang 40s favourites not only in English but in French and Lili Marlene in German too.
The event attracted all ages from 5 to 90 year olds, but it was the 90 year olds that showed the rest of us up.
A huge "Thank You" to all who attended, bought raffle tickets, donated cakes & prizes and their time.

Annual Concert

April 15, 2011
Annual Concert
SMILE Annual Concert: 3rd September 2011 Calver Village Hall.
We're giving you plenty of notice so don't go organising anything for the evening of Saturday September 3rd 2011. It's the night of our Annual Concert at Calver Village Hall. With a bit of luck we won’t have snow and ice, but that didn’t stop you last time and because they were brilliant, we are delighted that The Cottontown Chorus will be coming back. We’ve got 2 young local bands to accompany them on the bill. So don’t go arranging anything, as you'll be getting big city entertainment right on your door step

SMILE Quizzes

April 1, 2011
Each year Carolyn, our Queen of Cryptic, produces 2 quizzes. One to coincide with Well Dressing and one at Christmas.
The quiz is our biggest revenue earner and sells far and wide. We send our quizzes to regulars from Scotland to Essex and the South East.
The next quiz is brewing so I'll let you know when it hits the streets!
